Worship is the heart of the Christian faith, and it’s the heartbeat of life at YUMC. We believe all who worship with us should be blessed by that time with God and other believers, and there are lots of ways to be part of this ministry. Those who are gifted in hospitality can serve as a greeter and welcome others into the presence of God and God’s family.  Anyone with a willingness to learn the technology can join our dedicated AV team. If you have a heart for music, we welcome your participation.  Singers can join the choir, or lead in special music. Musicians are welcome to join in on congregational songs or share their gifts with solos. We also have an active hand bell choir (The Bell Tones), which is available to people of all musical abilities!  We also have a rotation of liturgists who enrich the worship service by leading in liturgy and reading Scripture. Last, but certainly not least, we have an active prayer team who lifts up the congregation and community before each service. These people work together to bring us a passionate worship experience which blends traditional and modern elements, and creates an environment where we can give our best to God.
We understand that Christianity is more than attending worship. It’s about cultivating a relationship with Jesus, and growing in maturity so that we act more like Jesus in our everyday lives.  Towards that end, we have several spiritual formation ministries, designed to help us grow in our understanding of God, God’s story (the Bible), and what it looks like to live as God’s people in the world today.  If you’re ready to grow as a Christian, here are some avenues for you:
  • Adult Sunday School, after worship in the TFL room (lower level)
  • Men’s Small Group, every-other Monday morning at 8am at church
  • Ladies Bible Study- Tuesday Morning at the home of Loretta Hiatt
  • Bible Study- Thursdays at 7pm at the home of Peggy Skinner (open to women and men)
  • Couples’ Small Groups
  • Short Term Studies throughout the year
  • For Youth & Children Info, please see “family ministry”
  • Foundations- a course that teaches the basic practices of Christian discipleship
Outreach and care
We believe Christians are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the world. That means it’s important to us that we live live and serve like Jesus inside AND outside the four walls of our church. Each month we hold a free community dinner, attended by many of our congregation’s neighbors- some because they enjoy the fellowship and others because they need a helping hand.   We also partner with various local ministries and organizations that bring hope, healing, and help to people in our community. We strive to connect people’s service to their passions! Whether you want to help people grow in faith, serve those in recovery, bless those in the midst of a crisis pregnancy, or support your neighbors who are underprivileged, we can connect and deploy you to those ministries.
